The Role
As the Engineering Manager of the Embedded Automotive Platforms team, you will be responsible for leading the creation of a software platform SDK that interfaces with the vehicle’s embedded hardware. This includes developing abstractions and APIs that enable Wayve’s software and robotics teams to efficiently deploy AV software across multiple different system-on-chip target hardware. Your role involves understanding the capabilities and nuances of various target platforms and runtime environments to define and create abstractions and portable core libraries. Those core libs are at the heart of Wayve’s product software.You will play a crucial role in advancing Wayve’s AV and Robotics technology. Your leadership will drive the efficiency, maintainability, and scalability of the embedded systems that underpin our autonomous vehicles. You will be accountable for overseeing critical technical programs, production software functional safety compliance, ensuring robust platform development, and fostering innovation within your team. Key responsibilities:
- You will lead a team of SWEs, breaking down large milestones into objectives which can be delivered by yourself and the team
- Together with tech leads, you’ll form the roadmap and execute against it
- You’ll collaborate closely with Robotic experimental platform teams
- Collaborate and support the entire production projects life-cycle ranging from technical pre-sale stages to product architecture definitions and ending with solution engineering across Wayve Engineering and Product orgs.
- You will be responsible for delivering automotive functional safety (FuSA) certified core production libraries.
- Manage cross function a team across various timezones.
About you In order to set you up for success as an Engineer Manager at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.Essential
- 2+ years managing a team of embedded SWEs (7-10 people)
- Strong engineering background, including substantial proven experience in embedded system development, preferably in the automotive industry or similar.
- Expertise in software development: Strong background in developing software for embedded systems using high-performance system languages like C++ and/or Rust
- Excellent leadership qualities, capable of leading cross-functional teams and projects. Strong ability to collaborate across divisions and effectively engage stakeholders.
- Proven experience working across multiple timezones
- Proficiency with PyTorch
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Desirable
- Experience as second line manager for an org of up to 20 engineers.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of IPC middleware for high data throughput robotic applications, and experience with Linux, QNX, build systems, and user space device drivers.
- Experience in FuSA and ISO26262 or similar compliance frameworks in fields like medical, aerospace.
- Familiarity with QNX, Safe Linux, ROS, Adaptive AutoSAR and similar automotive environments.
- Experience with delivering SW products to be used by 3rd parties.
- Experience with Qualcomm or Nvidia SoC
- Educational Background: A Master’s degree or greater in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
