Make Wayve the experience that defines your career!

The role

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with Wayve’s next-generation on-vehicle compute and sensor platform, as well as contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle.

As a member of the Robot Software, Inference & Accelerators team, you will collaborate with your team to deliver software for edge devices to provide data and enable autonomy on a large fleet of vehicles. You will work closely with our Autonomy and Science organizations to ensure they have the data and interfaces they need to train models, run experiments, and get feedback on driving performance.  You will deliver software layers which: extend our inference abstractions to new target hardware and accelerators, ensure the right data arrives in the right place at the right time, and create a system which is dynamically configurable.  A key responsibility will be to ensure that the software you deliver runs reliably at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders: Work with Product, Project, and Engineering management to advise and build the right solution
  • Software Development: Build and deliver software in C++  with high quality and reliability.  Create software which is observable and debuggable when running on a device 2000 km away and with limited connectivity.
  • Fault Tolerance and Diagnostics: Create robust, fault-tolerant software solutions with comprehensive system diagnostics to enable us to quickly and efficiently resolve any issues preventing our deployed fleet from operating at maximum capacity.

We understand that everyone has a unique set of skills and experiences and that not everyone will meet all of the requirements listed below. If you’re passionate about self-driving cars and think you have what it takes to make a positive impact on the world, we encourage you to apply.

About you

In order to set you up for success as a Software Engineer at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.

Essential

  • Software Development Skills: Proficiency developing high-performance embedded Linux systems software in C++.  Demonstrated ability to manage the complete software development lifecycle from ideation through delivery & optimization.
  • Debugging Skills: Ability to delve deep into performance issues, stack traces, core dumps, slow disk writes, high system load, memory bottlenecks, external device bottlenecks, and threading issues.
  • Linux Expertise: Familiarity with embedded Linux, build systems, and/or user space application software development.
  • Distributed Systems Understanding: Knowledge of how physically distributed systems operate (e.g. across servers in many racks, robots in the field, or cars on the road) and how to make these types of systems more scalable and performant..
  • IPC Middleware Knowledge: Strong understanding of how to optimally use and configure IPC middleware for high data throughput robotics applications (e.g. with frameworks such as ROS).

Desirable

  • Software Development Skills: Experience with Rust.
  • Compute Accelerator Skills: Experience coordinating host-to-accelerator and accelerator-to-host workflows.  Experience with PCIe, RDMA, NVLink, or other high-speed interconnects.
  • High Performance Software Skills: Familiarity with DMA engines, memory-mapped I/O, and zero-copy data transfer techniques.
  • AI/ML Software Skills: Experience with PyTorch, TensorRT, QNN and deploying ML models on both integrated and discrete accelerators.
  • Linux Kernel Development: Experience with device driver implementation, kernel module programming, and/or debugging low-level system issues would be beneficial in this role.
  • Embedded Environments: Experience with developing software for real-time operating systems such as QNX.
  • Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees are a plus.

This is a full-time role based in our office in London.
